Clean toys last longer and are more comfortable to use. The routine is the same for almost everything: wash, dry, store.
1. Rinse straight after use
Rinse the toy under warm running water as soon as you can, before anything dries on it. For a stroker or cup, let the water run through the inside and squeeze gently to flush it out.
2. Wash with something mild
Use warm water and a mild, unscented soap, or a dedicated toy cleaner such as the misting cleaners from JO or the Dame Hand + Vibe Cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, alcohol and bleach on soft materials.
3. Dry fully
Pat the toy dry with a lint-free towel, then let it air-dry completely, inside and out. Moisture left inside a sleeve is the main cause of odour. Stand cups and sleeves up, or open them out, so air can reach every part.
4. Store it properly
Keep each toy in its own bag or box, away from sunlight and away from other toys. Different materials can react with each other if they touch.
By material
- Silicone. Non-porous and easy to clean. Solid silicone toys without electronics can also be boiled for a few minutes if the manufacturer says so.
- Soft TPE or TPR sleeves. Softer and more porous. Wash gently, never boil, dry completely, and some people dust them lightly with toy powder or cornstarch afterwards to keep them from feeling tacky.
- Glass and stainless steel. Non-porous and simple to wash with soap and water. Check glass for chips or cracks before each use.
- Powered toys. Only submerge a toy that is rated waterproof. Otherwise wipe it clean with a damp cloth and cleaner and keep water away from the charging port.

Sharing and condoms
Do not share a toy between partners without a fresh condom over it, and wash it between uses.
